Definition:
- According to Advaita Vedanta, it is another name for the Absolute (Brahman). Advaita makes a distinction between Svarūpa-Jñāna, which is the Absolute (Brahman), and Vṝtti-Jñāna, which is a cognition or knowledge through a mental mode. Svarūpa-Jñāna is not opposed to ignorance (Avidyā), while Vṝtti-Jñāna is. The type of modal knowledge through which Brahman is apprehended is called Akhaṇḍākāra-Vṝtti-Jñāna.
- See Vṝtti-Jñāna.
