Sanskrit: उपनिषद्Transliteration: Upaniṣad (IAST)
Translation: “to sit close by devotedly; the last portion of the Vedas; (from the verb root sad = “to sit” + the prefixes upa = “near” and ni = “down”); thus, “to sit down near” (the spiritual teacher earnestly)”
