Eka-Jīva-Vāda | The Theory That There is Only One Self or Individual

Eka-Jiva-Vada

Eka-Jīva-Vāda (IAST)
Translation: "the theory that there is only one Self or individual"

A Concise Dictionary of Indian Philosophy
Sanskrit: एकजीववाद
Transliteration: Eka-Jīva-Vāda
Translation: "the theory that there is only one Self or individual"
Definition:
  1. A theory within Advaita Vedānta which posits that there is but one Jīva and one material body. The manifold world is erroneously imagined by the ignorance of the one individual while the one personal consciousness is real. This one individual (Jīva)—Hiraṇyagarbha—is a reflection of the Absolute (Brahman), and all other individuals are mere semblances of individuals and to these semblances pertain bondage and liberation.
