Agrahaṇa | Non-apprehension

Agrahana

Agrahaṇa (IAST)
Translation: "non-apprehension"

A Concise Dictionary of Indian Philosophy
Sanskrit: अग्रहण
Transliteration: Agrahaṇa
Translation: "non-apprehension; not knowing the truth"
Definition:
  1. According to Advaita Vedānta, it is an aspect of ignorance which remains even in the deep sleep state, though in a latent form. This explains how deep sleep differs from liberation.
  2. Non-apprehension is negative (Abhāva) and what is negative cannot be the cause of anything according to Advaita Vedānta.
